Bhubaneswar, Jul 10:
A two-member team of the commissionerate police would soon go to Bihar – and Jharkhand, if necessary – to record the statement of Chitra Athwani, the companion of PK Iyer, vice chairman of the Deccan Chronicle group who was arrested by Odisha police from a hotel here and handed over to the CBI in connection with a Rs 357 crore bank loan fraud case on June 5.
The team would first go to Darbhanga in Bihar, the address given by Chitra while booking a room at Hotel Trident here, sources in the commissionerate police said.
If she is not found in Darbhanga, the team would go to the hospital in Jharkhand capital Ranchi where she has claimed to be under treatment for a spinal injury sustained after a fall at home, they added.
After ignoring the first summons issued by commissionerate police, Chitra responded to the second, served on July 1, expressing her inability to present herself for questioning before commissionerate police saying she was under treatment at a Ranchi hospital.
Commissionerate police is presently investigating the nature of the relationship between PK Iyer and Chitra Athwani since he was arrested from a room booked in her name.
During investigation, the police came to know that she also stayed in the hotel for sometime.
Iyer had first arrived at the hotel with Chitra at about 2 AM on February 14. They had stayed together for 10 days before Chitra left the hotel.
Iyer, however, booked a hotel room in the same hotel in her name and continued to stay.
So far, the police have discovered that the Mumbai girl works as an air hostess and shared a very good rapport with Iyer.
