Odisha police have busted a car and motorcycle lifting gang with the arrest of four persons including an MBA student, police said today.
Twin City Commissionerate police cracked the case in which a complainant had alleged that some unidentified miscreants had booked his cab and looted it.
“Four members of the vehicle lifting gang have been arrested in connection with the vehicle lifting case registered with Khandagiri police. They were involved in series of robbery cases,” Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi informed media today.
On of the arrested, Pintu Digal hailing from Kandhamal and presently staying at Salia Sahi slum was a dreaded criminal and active in Bhubaneswar. He was involved in several cases and wanted in a sensational rape and dacoity case in G Udayagiri police station, police said.
The other accused are – Sandeep Nayak (27) from Tarini Nagar slum in Bhubaneswar, Jitendra Sahu (31) from Salia Sahi slum and Sivil Kumar Priyadarshan (31) from Palasuni in Bhubaneswar.
Worth mentioning, the driver Dillip Kumar Pradhan had filed a complaint that four persons took took a ride on March 21 night from SUM Hospital parking area after booking it on UBER app. While on their way towards their pre-defined destination Bharatpur, they stopped the car on Bharatpur-Chandaka road and looted it at gunpoint.
The miscreants also decamped with the vehicle documents, an ATM card, bank documents, passbook, ID proof and Rs 25000 kept in the vehicle.
Following complaint, Khandagiri police had formed a team and began investigation into the incident.
Acting on reliable information, police busted the gang involved in series of car and two-wheeler robbery cases in the capital city and other places.
The car bearing registration number OD 02 AB-6629 was recovered from neighbouring West Bengal, police sources said.
Police recovered the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dezire car, a Hero ZMR motorcycle and two mobile phones from their possession.
