Cuttack, Nov 9:
Dozens of Odisha Congress workers today barged in to a rally organised by Biju Janata Dal in Karikol village under Athagarh block of Cuttack district and showed black flags to local MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain and Urban Development Minister Pushpendra Singh Deo.
According to reports, the BJD leaders were on the way to attend the Biju centenary celebrations at Karikol school when the Congress workers clashed with BJD workers near Athagarh town police station and showed black flags to both the leaders.
The situation, however, was quickly brought under control by the police.
The cops have detained five Congress workers in connection with the incident.
MLA Swain, who is no stranger to opposition in his constituency — even from several factions of his own party – today said that he is not perturbed over the incident.
“I tour my constituency as much as 25 days a month. I am not perturbed over someone showing me a black flag, broom or whatever. Besides, I have not seen any black flags today,” said Swain while adding that Congress workers could have done it for publicity.
UD Minister Singh Deo, also claimed to have not noticed the opposition and refused to comment even though there was visual evidence of the clash between workers of BJD and Congress.
