Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) will gherao the office of Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) on March 11 protesting against the arrest of former legislator from Sanakhemundi Ramesh Jena, party sources said today.
A team comprising of Congress chief whip Taraprasad Bahinipati, District Congress Committee President Bhagaban Gantayat, OPCC general secretary Bikram Panda today met IG Amitabh Thakur at his office to register protest that Bahinipati and others were not allowed to meet Ramesh Jena and the arrest is guided by political vendetta.
“Ramesh Jena’s arrest is politically motivated as panchayat election is around the corner. We will gherao the IG office on March 11 which will be led by OPCC president Prasad Harichandan to protest such act,” Taraprasad Bahinipati thundered.
The firebrand leader told media that they had met IG to register their protest on the instructions of OPCC chief.
“The arms and ammunition seized from Ramesh Jena’s house doesn’t belong to him. They were planted in his house and have been falsely implicated. Police are torturing their family members. Hence, state Human Rights Commission should intervene into this. We demand the false cases be dropped against him,” Bahinipati demanded.
