Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked Devananda Mahapatra, who had challenged the election of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alleging discrepancies in poll expenses figures, to furnish his reply in the matter within 20 days.

In the case of non-submission of the concerned reply, the matter shall be decided on merit, a letter sent by the ECI to Mahapatra read.

Notably, Devananda Mahapatra, a BJP leader who had contested unsuccessfully against Patnaik from Hinjili constituency in 2014 Assembly Elections, had moved the Orissa High Court challenging election of the CM alleging that there were certain discrepancies in the statement of accounts and expenses submitted by the CM and his party BJD separately to ECI after the 2014 polls.
