Hours before leaving for New Delhi to attend the tripartite meeting to resolve Mahanadi issue, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today flagged off the 15-member Himalayan expedition team here today.


The Biju Patnaik Himalaya Abhijan has been launched by State Sports and Youth Services Department in association with Tata Steel Adventure Foundation on the occasion of Biju birth centenary celebrations.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik handed over flags and wished them luck for their expedition.

The mountaineering team comprising of nine men and six women would climb Mt Rudugaira (19, 100 ft) during their mission.

The 15-member expedition team will be led by legendary mountaineer and first Indian lady to scale Mt Everest Padmashri Bachendri Pal along with Padmashir Premlata Agarwal.

As per the itinerary, the members would leave Bhubaneswar on a 15-day tour and return on October 7.
