Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today showered praise on Rajesh Meher, who won two medals at the Special Olympics World Games, 2015 in Los Angeles.
“We are proud of Rajesh Meher’s achievement. I hope he would achieve many more successes and set many records in the field of sports,” Naveen Patnaik said.
It may be mentioned here that Rajesh bagged two medals—gold and bronze—in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening.
He clocked 31.03 seconds in the 200 metre event to win gold and bagged bronze in 400 metre with a timing of 1:11:18 seconds.
The 13-year-old menatlly challenged boy, a resident of Jamla village in Bargarh district, can’t speak, read or write. He has put in the mild category of mentally challenged with an intelligence quotient (IQ) level of 60.
Rajesh is a pre-vocational student of a school in Bargarh town meant for the physically handicapped.
His parents, who had only received pity from people so far, are ecstatic at the congratulatory messages that have been pouring in from all and sundry since news broke about their son’s stupendous feat at LA where players of 177 countries are participating.
