Bhubaneswar, Feb 14:
Crime Branch Special DG B K Sharma is in for trouble as Union Home Ministry has ordered a probe into his alleged misuse of office and power while acquiring a Law degree from a college in the Odisha capital.
Sharma who was a student of the University Law College here from 2011 to 2014 has allegedly attended 75-85% classes during the period while regularly attending office.
The Union Home Affairs Ministry has ordered an inquiry into the matter basing on a complaint lodged with it by RTI activist Jayanta Kumar Das who has questioned how Sharma had attended 75-85% classes while regularly attending office.
Das has stated in the complaint: “ Shri Bijay Kumar Sharma, IPS (OR:1986) has misused his power and position and attended regular Law classes in Utkal University Law College, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar from the Academic year 2011 to 2014 during duty hours. The RTI information exposed his corruption as the RTI information says that his attendance in the regular law classes is 85 percent in the Academic year 2011-12, 75 percent in 2012-13 and 2013-14.”
Das has further stated: “From the above it proves that Shri Sharma has attended the law classes in government duty hours but from his tour diary it has been revealed that he had attended the duty perfectly in 2011-12 this means he must have endorsed false information in his tour diary related to his regular duty to cheat the Government.”
The Union Home Affairs Ministry has asked the Principal Secretary of Home Department of the state government to inquire into the matter and take necessary action accordingly.
The Ministry has further asked the Department to send a suitable reply to the complainant after inquiry and action in the matter and intimate it urgently.
