Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in gang war and shootout in Odisha capital, Commissionerate police nabbed a dreaded criminal for his alleged involvement in the case.
Sources said that a special squad of Commissionerate police is looking for the other members of the gang to trace them in Puri, Khurda, Cuttack and Berhampur in connection with the case.
However, police denied detention of the accused.
Police said that raids are being conducted in several locations to arrest the gang members.
The fact will come to fore after arrest of all the accused involved in the shootout.
The police started investigation into the incident on basis of a bike left by the accused at crime site on CRPF over bridge under Nayapalli police limits.
Sources revealed that the shootout took place over distribution of looted money among the gang members on the flyover. The commuters were frightened after the criminals opened two-round firing. Following the incident while one climbed down from the over bridge through an electric pole attached to it, two fled the spot on bike and another member also fled.
Sources said that police had raided at several places in Cuttack on basis of the bike number. During interrogation, the bike owner revealed that persons who were accused of stealing his bike were from Nirakarpur area in Khurda district. On basis of the clue, police came to know about the gang members involved in the bike loot and shootout in state capital.
A number of cases are registered against the four-member gang in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khurda. Last year, police had arrested two members of the gang and forwarded to the court. After walking out of jail, again they were involved in a series of crimes.
