Bhubaneswar, Dec 30:
Odisha State Cabinet, in all likelihood, would tomorrow approve the government’s December 11 decision to stick to the all-India JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Main examination for students seeking admission into undergraduate engineering courses in the state.
If approved, it would bring down the curtains on a long standing confusion over the JEE Main Vs the OJEE and make preparation easier for students.
Notably, the Skill Development and Technical Education Department has brought a proposal for amendment to Section-3 of the OPE (Odisha Professional Education) Act. If it gets the approval, the government would have the necessary power to decide the avenue for admission in the engineering stream.
Apart from the JEE issue, the Cabinet meeting is also likely to approve a proposal on amendment in the BPUT (Biju Patnaik University of Technology) Act that seeks to reduce the term of BPUT Vice Chancellor to three years from existing five years.
Besides, the Cabinet may approve a proposal for amendment in the cadre rules for appointment of principals in government polytechnic colleges. If it gets the nod, recruitment of the principals for these colleges would be made as per the merit list prepared by OPSC (Odisha Public Service Commission).
Apart from the said ones, the Cabinet might also approve few other proposals including – Odisha Administrative Service Rule 2011 (Amendment), establishment of Steel Directorate under Steel and Mines Department, implementation of Odisha Labor Welfare Fund Rules – 2015, proportionalisation of taxes bases on Orissa Value Added Tax Act- 2004 etc.
