Most parts of Odisha would receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours under the influence of a depression in the Bay of Bengal, said the local Met office in a release this afternoon.
“The low pressure, which was lying over northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Bihar and Jharkhand yesterday, concentrated into a depression and lay centered over Jharkhand, adjoining North Chattisgarh and Odisha about 30 km southwest of Ranchi at 8.30 AM today. The system would move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually after 24 hours. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at one or two places over the interior districts and heavy rainfall at one or two places over coastal districts of Odisha during next 24 hours. Besides, rain or thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha,” the release said.
Fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into sea as gusty surface wind from south-westerly direction with speed reaching 40 to 45 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph may prevail along and off the Odisha coast during the period, the release added.
