The BJP will launch its second phase membership drive in Odisha from tomorrow. The party claimed that it has already notched up a membership of 11 lakh in the state and targets to achieve an ambitious 40 lakh members by the end of March 31 this year.
The party’s week long second phase membership drive to commence from tomorrow will conclude on February 11, the death anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, one of the most important leaders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the forerunner of the present day Bharatiya Janata Party.
The party’s state in-charge Arun Singh and national joint secretary (organisation) Shiv Prakash will participate during the week long membership drive, informed Bijay Mohapatra, senior BJP leader at a press meet here today.
Mohapatra said after the week long second phase membership drive concludes in the state on February 11, the party will hold reviews of the drive at Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda and Brahmapur on February 12 and 13.
“The party has decided to undertake a week long membership drive in the state from February 5 to 11. Accordingly, party leaders have been entrusted with responsibilities. February 11 being the death anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, it has been decided to conclude the second phase membership drive on that day”, said Mohapatra.
