Sundargarh, Jun 18:
Ahead of panchayat polls scheduled to be held next year, the executive body of state BJP today started its two-day long brainstorming session in Odisha’s Sundargarh.
Over the two days, the meeting — attended by top brass of state unit along with Odisha in charge Arun Singh and both union ministers from the state — is likely to formulate a strategy to counter BJD and Congress in the state before the polls.
While union Tribal Affairs Minister and local MP Jual Oram attended the meeting today, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will attend the meeting tomorrow.
“We will discuss the achievements of the Central Government and the failures of the State Government in these two days. Besides, we will also discuss the strategy for the upcoming panchayat polls,” said Oram speaking to reporters.
Speaking about the conspicuous absence of Dillip Ray in the meeting, he added, “I just spoke to him over phone. He is in Gangtok for business. He has no reservations on this meet”.
The party will also identify its strongholds and weak spots where it needs to focus more to increase its vote share. It will emphasize on usage of technology and pay special attention to attract first time voters, housewives, tribals and dalits, said a source in the party.
It may be noted here that the party, on its June 8 officer bearers’ meet, had decided to set up ‘power centres’ across all panchayats of the state and ‘BJP Booth Committees’ at the village level to garner strength for the upcoming panchayat polls.
