Odisha artist Sudarsan pays sandy homage to Bapu in Seychelles

Odisha sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Friday created a sand sculpture at Victoria City of Seychelles as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of International nonviolence day.


The magnificent sand sculpture features a globe, a dove and Gandhiji with his three wise monkeys in the background.

The International Day of Non-Violence is observed worldwide on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is referred to in India as Gandhi Jayanti and celebrated as Seychelles-India day in the in East African country.

Notably, On June 15, 2007 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence. The resolution by the General Assembly asks all members of the UN system to commemorate it in an appropriate manner and disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness.

The 38-year old Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik is a world-renowned sand artist, who has won the World champion title at USF World sand sculpture championship in Berlin in 2008. Besides, he is the 5-time winner of people’s choice award at Berlin, which is a record.
