Keonjhar, May 15:
The Keonjhar district administration in Odisha today dismissed both the anganwadi worker Subhashree Giri and cook Sukanti of Khendra Anganwadi centre under Jhumpura police limits from their jobs on charges of throwing piping hot water on a two and half year old child, leaving him critically injured, sources said.
The district administration also suspended the supervisor of the Anganwadi Kendra today. The cook and the anganwadi worker were arrested by the police earlier, the sources added.
It may be recalled here that Parshuram Munda a two and half year old child was punished by the anganwadi worker and the cook for ‘defiling’ the boiled eggs kept for the children in the Anganwadi Kendra. The cook and the anganwadi worker had allegedly thrown piping hot liquid residue (peja) of cooked rice on the child on May 11.
The child’s father Rilu Munda had alleged in his complaint before the police that his child suffered the inhuman attack simply because he committed the crime of touching the boiled eggs kept in a container at the Anganwadi Kendra. This enraged the anganwadi worker and the cook allegedly because the child who belongs to the ‘Munda’ caste had desecrated the eggs by touching them.
Parshuram, who was initially rushed to the Jhumpura Primary Health Centre was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital here where he is now undergoing treatment for his burns
ADM Keonjhar, Sangram Keshari Swain had then said that a probe has been ordered and had promised stringent action against the accused persons..
