Odisha’s Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathi faced the opposition ire as BJP workers today showed black flags during the former’s visit to Bolangir district to assess the drought situation.
The minister was shown black flags near Nanuhandi village in Patnagarh and at Mahulibahali village in Turekela block in the district. Police arrested four BJP workers for their alleged involvement in the incident.
Alleging the state government of doing very little for the farmers’ which has failed to stop suicides, the members of BJP showed black flag and shouted slogans against the government.
The members of the saffron party demanded the government to announce entire Bolangir district as drought-hit. Besides, they demanded adequate relief package to the affected farmers and compensation package to the family members of the deceased farmers.
In a related development, Sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marandi was also shown black flags during his visit to Ganjam district.
The agitators tried to prevent the minister’s vehicle from moving forward by sleeping in front of it. They were opposing the shifting of the sports’ hostel for girls for weightlifting from Berhampur to Bhubaneswar.
