Bhubaneswar, Aug 23:
Well-known social activist Linkan Subuddhi would be conferred with the Biju Patnaik Bravery Award for this year by the Odisha government.
The IT professional turned social worker from Odisha, who was working with a local NGO in New Delhi, was in the news after she was brutally attacked near a slum in Noida area on September 22 last year when she tried to rescue a minor girl, who was being forced to marry a person far older than her.
Subuddhi was fielded as a BJD candidate in the last election for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) earlier this year, but lost the election. She later alleged that she lost because of opposition from within the party.
