Bhubaneswar/Puri: Based on preliminary investigations into the complaint alleging inappropriate groping of women devotees at the Gundicha temple during Sandhya Darshan on Sunday, Puri SP Dr. Sarthak Sarangi this evening denied deployment of any policeman by the name of Bijay Behera at the temple on the fateful day.

Earlier, in the day, the medico, who had shared her harrowing experience of women being groped inappropriately by security personnel in front of her during the Sandhya Darshan on social networking site-Facebook, recorded her statement before Puri police.

Puri police recorded her statement under section 161 CrPC at the private medical college here where she is studying.

Sources said the police quizzed her on the incident.

She was asked questions like where exactly the incident took place; who and how they were misbehaved; who else were there; under what circumstances she had slapped the security personnel and so on, the sources added.

Statements of the complainant and her mother may be recorded again if the need so arises, said police.

Similarly, CCTV footage will be examined and security personnel on duty at the time of the incident will be quizzed, police added.

“I have recorded her statement. That apart, we will interrogate those who were on duty during that period after examining CCTV footage,” informed Mrutunjay Swain, Investigating Officer, Kumbharpada police station to reporters.

Basing on the medico’s post on her Facebook wall and media reports, DGP K B Singh had yesterday directed Puri SP to register an FIR in Kumbharpada police station under appropriate sections and get it investigated under his supervision.
