Rising Student stormed into the final of MCC’s Old Monk Club Soda NM Bhuyan Memorial Trophy, by beating the powerful Saheed Sporting in an exciting match today at the BJB College ground here.
Saheed Sporting elected to bat after winning the toss and raced to a great start with the opening pair putting up a 98 run partnership. However, the team failed to keep the momentum and were all out for just 217 runs. The team suffered a major jolt when its star batsman Rashmi Ranjan Parida was run out before he could set his eyes on the ball.
P. Jayachandra did a good job for his team by scoring a half century. Rakesh Patnaik (40) and Preetam Singh too made useful contributions. However,the team’s total looked vulnerable at 217.
With three wickets for 36 runs, Deepak Behera was the most successful bowler for Rising Student while Jamal Mohapatra earned two wickets for 33.
Rising Student had little problem surpassing the target in the 37th over with two brilliant unbeaten half centuries by Arvind Singh ( 67) and Santosh Sethi (53) and an impressive 41 by Srijay Mohanty.
Bikash Pati too chipped in with a brisk 26 runs.
For Saheed Sporting Rakesh Gochhayat bagged two wickets for 50 runs.
Arvind Singh was adjudged the Man of the Match and was felicitated by P.L Mohanty, Director MGM Groups.
