Bhubaneswar, May 24:
Ending all speculations over who would be the Speaker of the newly constituted Odisha Assembly, the BJD today named the former minister Niranjan Pujari as its candidate for the post.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik proposed Pujari’s name before the Assembly secretary while the Parliamentary Affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh seconded the proposal.
Election for the Speaker, which will be held on Monday, will be a mere formality because Pujari will be elected unopposed.
There were many BJD leaders in the race to occupy the coveted post including Mangala Kisan, Bed Prakash Agarwal, Pramila Mallik, and Nrusingha Charan Sahu.
