Bhubaneswar, Dec 28:
Beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Odisha will get subsidized kerosene on head count basis from January instead of the current practice of four litres to a PDS card holder.
The state government has already approved the formula which it feels will ensure greater transparency and efficient delivery to the beneficiary.
The Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare department has almost readied the mechanism and is giving final touches to the process.
The state gets 3.24 crore litres of kerosene from the Centre towards its quota, under the new formula it is estimated that 2.96 crore beneficiaries will be benefited, said departmental sources.
“Kerosene will be now available on head count basis instead of the earlier per card basis. It will come into effect from January. Earlier, four litres were given to family irrespective of family members. Now it will be given head wise. The allocation will be a little more than a liter per head,” said Madhusudan Padhi, secretary Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department talking to reporters here.
