Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today met United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Erik Solheim at the State Secretariat here and proposed for UNEP’s encouragement towards organic farming in Odisha.
The CM said there is a lot of scope for organic farming in the state for which the government is interested for sustainable and climate resilient organic agriculture.
Organic farming should be given importance in rain-dependent and tribal areas of Odisha where there is no application of chemicals in agriculture, Patnaik added.
Speaking on the occasion, Solheim said social and economic resources have been well managed in Odisha. The UNEP is interested for various programmes in Odisha for protection of environment. There is also scope for organic farming in the state and success in this regard can be achieved with cooperation from the state government, he said.
Worth mentioning, Solheim has arrived in Odisha to join Odisha Knowledge Hub Lecture Series.
