Bhubaneswar, Dec 22:
Justice A S Naidu Commission of Inquiry on Kandhamal riots will submit its report to the Odisha government on Tuesday.
The Commission will present its report to the secretary Home department around 1 PM today.
During its course of investigation a total of 825 affidavits were filed before it and 300 persons had deposed before it as witnesses. Out of them 78 were government employees and 222 were from the general public.
The Commission of Inquiry has produced a report of 1026 pages, said sources.
It may be mentioned here that the state government after the Kandhamal communal riots had appointed Justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra to conduct the inquiry.
It was after his demise Justice Naidu was appointed by the government to conduct the inquiry in 2012.
Swami Laxmananda Saraswati and four of his aides were killed at his ashram at Jaleshpata in Kandhamal district on August 23, 2008. The killing had triggered communal violence in Kandhamal in which at least 38 people were killed.
More than 25,000 Christians were forced to flee their homes after their houses were attacked by rampaging mobs, who held Christians responsible for the murders. Police, however, blamed the murders on the Maoists.
The Commission’s report is likely to have two parts- the cause behind the riots; how such riots can be prevented in the future
