More rain likely to lash north coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The depression over Bay of Bengal is very likely to maintain its intensity during the next 24 hours with a possibility of triggering heavy rainfall over north coastal districts of Odisha.

“The Depression over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of about 18 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 09th December, 2017 over northwest Bay of Bengal near Latitude 19.0 ºN and Longitude 86.3 ºE, about 150 km south-southeast of Gopalpur and 150 km south-southwest of Paradip and 330 km south-southwest of Digha,” a bulletin of the local meteorological centre said.

“It is very likely to maintain its intensity during 24 hours & weaken gradually into a well marked low during subsequent 12 hours,” it added.

“Heavy Rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places very likely over north coastal districts of Odisha during next 12 hours,” it forecasted.

Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely to prevail along & off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts during next 12 hours and 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph during subsequent 12 hours. Besides, squally winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is also very likely to prevail along & off south Odisha coast during next 12 hours.

Sea condition would be rough to very rough along & off south Odisha coast during next 12 hours and very rough along & off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts during next 24 hours.

Fishermen along and off south Odisha coast are advised not to venture into sea during next 12 hours and along and off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts during next 24 hrs.
