Bramhapur, Oct 28:
Authorities of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital have closed down the intensive care unit (ICU) and 10 special cabins and shifted 46 newborn babies from the newborn special care unit after a slab fell from the roof on Friday night.
Engineers of the Public Works department have declared the affected portion of the building as unsafe.
The authorities have, however, claimed that despite the incident, services of the hospital would not be affected and that the closed units will re-open after the repair work is completed.
The authorities, in the meanwhile, have sought Rs 15 crore financial assistance towards the repair of the hospital infrastructure which has been very badly damaged by Cyclone Phailin.
