Bhubaneswar, Sep 28:

In a broad day light heist, armed miscreants looted over Rs 13 lakh and gold ornaments from UCO bank’s Bapujinagar branch in Odisha capital this morning.

According to reports, five miscreants came in a car and entered into the bank at around 10 AM. They threatened the customers and bank staff at gunpoint and asked the latter to handover them the keys of the strong room.

After obtaining the keys, the robbers locked the staff inside a room and looted over Rs 13 lakh and 7 packets of gold ornaments weighing around one kg from the strong room. They fled the spot soon after committing the crime, reports added.

The looters decamped with the CCTV hard disk of the bank in a bid to destroy evidence, sources said. According to bank employees, the miscreants were talking to each other in Hindi.

On being informed, Twin City police commissioner YB Khurania, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, special squad and quick action team reached the spot and started investigation. Live bullets have been seized from the spot.

“Security guards were not deployed at the bank. The alarm system of the bank was defunct,” said Abhimanyu Behera, Branch Manager.
