The Odisha Minority Forum (OMF) has urged President Pranab Mukherjee for an impartial probe either by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on August 23, 2008 in Kandhamal district and the communal violence that followed soon after the incident.

Alleging that the role of the state government in ensuring justice to the victims, particularly the Christians, is not satisfactory, the Forum, in a memorandum submitted to the President on Sunday, urged him to direct the state government to take corrective measures to protect the Christians and their socio-economic status.

“While the victims have been suffering from various socio-economic constraints, most of the culprits have been acquitted due to poor investigations by the police in all communal cases,” said Jugal Kishore Ranjit, convener of the Forum.
