Nayagarh/Khandapada/Cuttack, Aug 23
After two back-to-back rape and murder of minor girls in Kendrapada and Bhubaneswar triggering outrage across the state, a minor tribal girl of a village was brutally gang raped by unidentified miscreants inside a mango orchard in Khandapda in Nayagarh district.
The condition of the rape victim who survived the attempt to kill her, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and is battling for life.
According to the FIR lodged by the father of the victim, the 16-year-old girl of Kandhamirigi village had gone to the house of her paternal uncle of the same village along with her mother in the morning on August 20 for some household work.
Later, the girl went out of the house to attend nature’s call at about 11 am. But when she did not return, the family members went for a frantic search. At about 3 pm, a man from the same village found the girl lying in a pool of blood inside a mango orchard, about one km from the village.
Following the information, the girl’s family members and some villagers rushed to the spot and admitted the girl to Gania hospital from where she was finally shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where her condition is stated to be serious, reports said.
Next day, the aggrieved father went to Koska outpost where the in-charge officer Chandramani Behera did not receive his complaint and allegedly scolded him in abusive language.
Protesting the inaction of the police, the irate villagers on Thursday gheraoed Khandapada police station. However, the villagers withdrew the gherao after the officer-in-charge Akbar Ali Khan admitted the complaint with an assurance that a police team from Khandapada will immediately rush to Cuttack for investigation.
Meanwhile, sources in the locality said that the police is trying to hush up the case due to political pressure from the ruling party.
