Mid day meal horror in Kanas: 50 sick students admitted to hospital in Odisha capital

As many as 50 out of the 280 students of a government school in Odisha’s Puri district, who had fallen ill after taking their midday meals at the school on Friday, were admitted to the Capital hospital here this afternoon after their health deteriorated.

The seriously ill students of Jaguleipadar Nodal Upper Primary school under Kanas block in Puri district were brought to the city by their parents and admitted in the Paediatric ward of the hospital.

Puja Behera, a student admitted in hospital, said she and her school mates suffered headache and started vomiting while some even fainted after taking their mid day meals consisting of rice and soyabean curry at the school on Friday.

The health condition of three of the particularly sick students is being monitored on an hourly basis, a dcotor at the Paediatric ward told OST adding the condition of the other students is stable now.

Meanwhile, Ramaranjan Baliarsingh, former BJD MLA from Satyabadi, met the ill students here in the hospital and demanded proper inquiry into the matter and  action against those found guilty.

Joint secretary of State Education department Gangadhar Sahu said the situation is under control. “Food sample have been collected for test. After test report, if wrong doings found, examplary action will be taken against the responsible,” he said.

Jaguleipadar Nodal Upper Primary school has classes from class I to class VIII with 382 students on its rolls.
