Media XI emerged as the winner of the 10th edition of Tata Steel Friendship Cup Football Tournament organised at Kalinga Stadium in Odisha capital today.

The winning team outplayed the Bureaucrat XI by 5-2 goals in the final.

In the first half, the Media XI scored a self goal as one of its player inadvertently pushed the ball to the net. With the Bureaucrat XI taking lead in the first half, the Media XI bounced back with Vikash Marandi scoring a goal through penalty kick. The fiercely fought match went to the tiebreaker with scores levelled at 1-1. The Media XI beat Bureaucrat XI by 5-2 goals.

The captain of the Bureaucrat team Rajesh Burma, Chairman, OERC, S. P Nanda, Arun Misra, Vice President, Project Gopalpur & MD, Tata Steel SEZ, Deputy Resident Editor, Business Standard, Dillip Satapathy and Resident Editor of The Statesman K. Ravi distributed prizes to both the champion and runners up teams.

Ashok Apat of Media XI was awarded as the Best Defence, Saswat Mishra of Bureaucrat XI as Best Half, Ajaya Kumar Mohapatra of Bureaucrat XI as Best Forward, Debi Biswal of Bureaucrat XI as Best Goalkeeper, Raj Ghosal of Media XI as Highest Scorer. Similarly, Man of the Match of the first, second and final match was given to S.D Durga of Bureaucrat XI, Tanuj Saxhena of Media XI and Bikash Marandi of Media XI respectively.

Prior to this, the first semi final of the tournament was played between the Leaders XI and Bureaucrat XI where the latter won the match by a goal scored by SD Durga taking his team to the final.

In the second semi final match between Tata Steel XI and Media XI, the latter won the match by a margin of two goals. From Media Team Raj Ghosal in the first half scored the goal to give his team a 1-0 lead. In the second half Tata steel team leveled the score 1-1 with Tanuj Saxshena of Tata Steel XI kicking a goal.

As no team was able to score any goal further, the match was decided through a tiebreaker where Media XI defeated Tata Steel by 4-2 goals to enter the final.

Speaker of Odisha Assembly Nirajan Pujari inaugurated the Tata Steel Friendship Cup Football Tournament.

Arun Sahu, Minister for Panchayati Raj and Law, Sudam Marandi, Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Arun Misra, Vice President, Project Gopalpur & MD, Tata Steel SEZ,  and Manikanta Naik, Chief Resident Executive, Tata Steel, Bhubaneswar were present on the occasion.
