Sambalpur, May 20:
Apprehensions over the fate of the proposal to increase seats in the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district in the current academic session appear real now, as the Medical Council of India has summarily rejected the idea.
It may be mentioned here that the state government had announced an increase of 100 seats each in the VSS and MKCH Medical Colleges and Hospitals from the 2014-15 academic session.
Accordingly, the government had sent a proposal to the MCI to add 100 seats to the existing 150 seats in the VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla.
Sources in the MCI said that the proposal was rejected as the state government did not submit it in the proper format.
However, no clarification has been issued by the state government so far, thus giving rise to suspicion that the announcement may have been made only as a publicity stunt.
