Malkangiri, Aug 27
An assistant engineer working under the state government’s Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) was today arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh in Malkangiri district.
The engineer, identified as Laxman Behera, was allegedly accepting the illegal gratification from a contractor of Jeypore Dinesh Kumar Palon Monday when vigilance sleuths caught him red handed, vigilance sources said here today.
Dinesh was undetaking work of four projects under ITDA of the state government. The engineer had allegedly demanded the amount to pass a bill of Rs 15 lakh.
Vigilance personnel from Jeypore led by DSP Sisir Kumar Bhoi raided the circuit house here where the engineer was staying since three months and seized a total of Rs 9.70 lakh from his posession.
Besides, raids were also conducted in his house at Berhampur and investigation was continuing, they said. (PTI)
