Tension gripped Balugaon market in Odisha’s Nayagarh district today as locals staged road blockade and gave a bandh call demanding compensation for the family members of two persons who were killed due to alleged careless driving by a Haiwa truck driver yesterday.
Vehicular movement was disrupted along Nayagarh-Khandapada route as locals blocked road by burning tyres. Shops and business establishments remained closed in Balugaon market due to the bandh call, sources said.
According to reports, the truck, which was coming from Khandapada, met with an accident at Barapalli yesterday. A person was injured in the road mishap. Later, the vehicle dashed into a bike and auto-rickshaw at Balugaon market. While a person died on the spot , three sustained grievous injuries in the incident.
The injured persons were admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. However, one of them succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar following deterioration of his health condition.
The agitating locals are demanding compensation to the kins of the deceased and treatment assistance to the injured ones.
