A lady teacher in Khaparpada village under Dhusuri police limits in Dhamnagar block in Odisha’s Bhadrak district today sustained critical injuries when she was stabbed by a youth with a knife, reports said.
The lady teacher identified as Diptimanjari Panda was on her way to join duty at a nearby school when she was attacked by the youth, reports added.
Local sources said the youth identified as Manas Ranjan Panigrahi stopped Diptimanjari and her sister who is also a teacher and were going to join duty at a nearby school on a scooty.
Panigrahi by stopping the duo proposed love to Diptimanjari and on her refusal stabbed her with a knife. After stabbing the lady teacher, Panigrahi climbed atop a nearby electric transformer to commit suicide, luckily for him there was no power then otherwise it could have proved fatal.
Locals caught hold of him and tied him to an electric pole and thrashed him heavily.
Meanwhile, the teacher has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Bhadrak in critical condition.
Also Panigrahi who was rescued by the Dhusuri police has been sent to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
He sustained injuries after being thrashed by the villagers.
