Bhubaneswar, Nov 22:
Family members of several deceased employees of Odisha School & Mass Education Department staged a protest and attempted self-immolation in front of the official residence of the department minister Devi Prasad Mishra over various demands in Bhubaneswar this morning.
According to reports, police captured twenty of the agitators when they were trying to set themselves on fire by pouring kerosene on their bodies near the minister’s residence. They were later detained by cops.
Worth mentioning, as per Odisha Civil Service Rehabilitation Rules, from 1990 onwards one of the family members of any state government employee possessing similar educational qualification as that of the employee would get government job if the employee dies during the period of his service.
In 2013, the School & Mass Education Department had sent the names of 595 persons to the state government for approval regarding their appointment.
It was then promised to provide regular appointments in Group C and D posts. However, the agitators have alleged that they were provided with contractual appointments.
