The KIIT School of Film and Media Sciences today deeply mourned the sad demise of Nirad Narayan Mohapatra, veteran filmmaker, director and producer of Odisha, who passed away at a private hospital in Mumbai this morning at the age of 67.
Present at the condolence meeting, Himashu Khatua, CEO, School of Film & Media Sciences; Baikunth Panigrahi, Director, KIIT Media School; Adweita Gadanayak, director, School of Fine Arts and Dr SP Mishra, director, School of Fashion Technology, faculty and students observed a two-minute silent prayer.
In his condolence message, Dr Achyuta Samanta, founder, KIIT & KISS said, Mahapatra was closely associated with KIIT School of Film and Media Sciences since its inception. He was a multi-faceted talent who joined Film and Television Institute of India, (FTII), Pune, to pursue direction course in 1968 and later joined the same institute as a lecturer in 1973.
“With his demise, Odisha has lost a legendary son”, he added..
Mahapatra had shot into international fame with his first Odia feature film “Maya Miriga” in 1984 which was adjudged the second best national film in 1984. The film was also adjudged the best third world film at Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival in West Germany.
