KIIT University student Tusharkant Sahoo has brought laurels for the institution as well as the state in National Cadet Corps (NCC) by winning the Best Naval NCC cadet trophy scoring second position in the national competition.
Tusharkant, pursuing his B Tech degree in Mechanical branch, was one of the six who bagged the award from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Prime Minister’s Rally on January 28 this year, informed Commodore B K Patnaik, Deputy Director General (DDG) of NCC, Odisha.
Tushar, representing the Odisha directorate, was chosen from among 2000 NCC Cadets representing different parts of the country, Patnaik said. “Tusharkant became only the second cadet in Odisha to get this award. Our state had achieved this award for the first time way back in 1975,” informed Patnaik.
Tusharkant, a Navl NCC cadet, was chosen among the best cadets by a group of defence selection staffs who conducted various tests like obstacles, firing, drill, general knowledge, oratory skill and dressing up.
The DDG said the cadets were trained for one and half months in the state before performing at the Republic Day parade on 26 January. .
Dr Achyuta Samanata, Founder of KIIT and KISS, congratulated Tusharkant and his mentor for bringing this stupendous success for the University as well as for the state. He was given a rousing welcome after his arrival in Bhubaneswar by the institution, said Dr Samanta, adding, the state government will be felicitating him for his achievement.
Tusharkant praised his mentors for their active support and guidance in putting up a spirited performance at the R Day parade.
