Joda police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused involved in the brutal murder of six members of a tribal family inside their house at Munda Sahi village atop the Lahanda Hill in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Sunday night.
The police, during preliminary investigation, have come to know that the six members of the tribal family were killed by the villagers who suspected them of practicing sorcery.
“Armed police forces have been deployed in and around the village. We have engaged three special squads which are raiding several places in the nearby areas to nab the accused,” said Badbil SDPO Ajay Pratap Swain.
Meanwhile, all male members of the village have left their houses fearing police action.
The assailants had killed Gura Munda (35), his wife Budhni Munda (30), sons Sunil Munda (16) and Kushanath (10) and two daughters Sambhari (12) and Namita (3) and critically injured two other family members Ganit Munda (18) and Shambhu Munda (9) with sharp weapons.
The two seriously injured patients have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital where their condition is stated to be critical, the SDPO added.
Following the incident, Meanwhile, DGP Sanjiv Marik had announced that the Crime Branch would conduct the investigation into the brutal murder of six members of the tribal family.
“The State Police have accorded Red Flag category status to this heinous killing. I have asked the Crime Branch DSP to investigate the case and the SP to supervise the case. The Crime Branch ADG will monitor the progress of the probe,” Marik had told the media yesterday.
