Kamakhyanagar sub-collector, tehsildar thrashed by locals; hospitalised

Kamakhyanagar sub-collector, tehsildar and a supplies inspector were allegedly thrashed by locals today after the car in which they were travelling hit a cattle herd at Gengutia in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.

According to reports, sub-collector Kalpataru Behera, tehsildar Saroj Swain and supplies inspector Himanshu Shekhar Dutt were beaten by 5-6 persons who had an exchange of words with the officials after the car hit the animals.

Both have been admitted to Kamakhyanagar sub-divisional hospital.

On being informed, police reached the hospital, recorded the statement of the three officials, and started investigation into the incident registering a case.

“The tehsildar, who was driving the car, blew horn seeing the cattle herd crossing the road following which the cattle rearers attacked the vehicle. They also attacked the tehsildar after he protested the act,” said sub-collector Behera.
