Bhubaneswar: Jayadev Bhawan in Odisha capital will have the first rooftop solar project of the State on government buildings, announced Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today.

Attending a programme of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), Patnaik congratulated the Energy department and officials for their diligent efforts in promoting rooftop solar power in Odisha.

The rooftop solar project, which was launched by CM Patnaik on Wednesday, will be replicated in 15 other towns.

Addressing the newly appointed employees at the function, Patnaik hailed OPTCL for conducting recruitment drive to hire motivated and talented human resources in the power sector.

OPTCL has recruited 1,581 professionals since 2010 in various disciplines setting an example for other PSUs.

The transmission system of availability of OPTCL has reached 99.96%, which is the highest in the country, for which it has been awarded by the Ministry of Power.

In view of excellent performance of OPTCL in the past few years, Odisha government has entrusted many state funded projects to it as the Nodal Agency for implemenation, Patnaik said.

As the consumption load of the State is projected to be 30,000 million units by 2022, the OPTCL has proposed for expansion of GRID Network with 57 new GRIDs to ensure uninterrupted power supply, he said.

Notably, total 150 junior technicians joined OPTCL on Thursday.
