Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed lives of three more children in Odisha’s Malkangiri today taking the death toll in the vector-borne disese to 84 in the district.
The deceased were identified as Ramesh Padiami of Daniguda village, Rasi Madhi of Korkonda and Ramesh Pujari of Mathili in the district.
All of them succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment at Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital.
Notably, Ramesh’s sister Sushila had died of the disese two days ago.
Sources said, as many as 6 children affected by JE are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the District Headquarters Hospital.
On the other hand, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Nruparaj Sahu said that JE situation remains grim for last 3-4 days. An expert team would visit Malkangiri after November 3 to review the situation, he said.
