Bhubaneswar, May 11:
Senior Odisha journalist and editor of Rastradeep, Jagabandhu Mishra, would be conferred with the Narad Samman for the year 2014, a release from Viswa Sambad Kendra said today.
The award will be presented to him at the Idcol conference hall here on May 15.
The annual award, instituted by the Viswa Sambad Kendra, Odisha since 2002, is conferred on a senior journalist of Odisha in recognition of his role in raising awareness on freedom of press, apprising the people of the need for unbiased, free and responsible news dissemination, standing up against any undue pressures and interference and advocating the preservation and development of the state’s culture, said Raghunath Pati, president of Viswa Sambad Kendra, Odisha, in the release.
Among others, former DGP Gopal Chandra Nanda and president of RSS Odisha branch Bipin Bihari Nanda would grace the function as the chief guest and chief speaker respectively.
The previous recipients of the Narad Samman include senior journalists Prasanta Patnaik, Bhagaban Nayak Burma, Rajaram Satpathy, Gopal Krushna Mohapatra, Late Gopal Mishra, Sudhir Kumar Das, Barendra Krushna Dhal, Bhagirathi Mahasuar, Bhaskar Pariccha, Prabhu Kalyan Mohapatra and Pratap Mohanty.
