Bhubaneswar, Jun 12:
More than 100 women today ransacked a ‘government foreign liquor off shop’ in Hansapala square near outskirts of Odisha capital and set it on fire.
While the owner of the shop and the workers were not present in the shop at the time of the incident, police officials reached the spot three hours later.
Locals had been protesting against the shop since quite some time citing antisocial activities in and around the area because of the shop. However, the administration had taken no action to shift the shop, said a local.
“There is a school, a hostel, a bank among many other institutions in close proximity. There also are residential areas in the vicinity. This liquor shop had become a hub of antisocial activities in the neighbourhood. Women were afraid of stepping out of their homes even during day time because of their hooliganism. This had to stop,” said a woman.
