A woman Maoist, who sustained injuries in the recent encounter in the cut off areas of Odisha’s Malkangiri district, surrendered before SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra today.

The female red rebel, identified as Dhanmati Bhaja of Dabuguda village in the district, was working for Kudumulugumma committee of the banned outfit.

Bhaja, who had sustained bullet injuries on her leg during the encounter, was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment after she surrendered before police.

It may be recalled here that 28 Maoists were killed in a gunbattle with security forces which also left a Greyhounds commando dead in the cut-off areas of Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district on October 24. Two more Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces at Panasput forest in Malkangiri on October 27.
