Indian Army orders probe into shell blast in Odisha’s Gopalpur

Brahmapur, Nov 24:

The Indian Army today ordered a probe into the tragic accident in which two personnel were seriously injured after a shell exploded in a Bofor’s gun at the force’s Air Defence College at Gopalpur in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The inquiry will be on whether the incident was a result of faulty ammunition or the procedures not followed.

A captain and a havaldar were seriously injured when a shell suddenly went off while they were conducting a chamber gauging exercise on a Bofors L-70 gun that was to be used for firing practice.

While the right wrist of the captain was blown away, the havaldar received injuries in his eye and thighs.

Six others received minor injuries in the blast.

“The two seriously injured, admitted to the ICU, was stable, hospital sources said.
