India test fires Akash missile for second day on trot

 ‘Akash’, India’s indigenously-developed surface-to-air missile, was successfully test fired for the second day running from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha as part of a user trial.

The missile, test fired from the launch complex-3 of the ITR at about 2.28 pm today, aimed at a para-barrel target during the trial, Defence sources said.
“The test was fully successful and met all parameters.” the official said.
‘Akash’, a medium range surface-to-air anti-aircraft defence system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme’  has a strike range of 25 km and can  carry 60 kg of warhead.
Two Akash missiles were successfully test fired from the same base on April 26 while another was test fired yesterday, an official said.
Compared with American MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system, Akash has the capability to neutralise aerial targets like fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles.
