After a general body meeting of the members, an unanimous resolution was passed by the Bar Association suggesting government functionaries desist from making divisive and confusing statements.
Bar association secretary Janmejaya Katakia said the lawyers boycotted the courts and their future course of action would charted out after reviewing the situation on Monday.
Without naming state finance minister Prasanna Acharya, the resolution condemned the statements recently made by him. Acharya represents an Assembly segment in western Odisha.
Earlier this week, Acharya made a statement in Bhubaneswar stating that the state government would soon make a recommendation to the Centre to establish a bench of the high court in western Odisha.
Members of the Bar alleged that the minister’s statement was appeasement and said it was contrary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s statement in the Assembly that the state government would wait the for recommendation of the Justice C R Pal Commission.
A delegation of the Bar would meet the Chief Minister, law minister and finance minister to express the Association’s concerns, Katakia added.(PTI)
