Cuttack, May 11:
Thousands of enthusiastic spectators thronged Odisha’s Barabati stadium here even before noon to watch the high voltage match between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing 7th Indian Premiere League (IPL) tournament scheduled to begin at 4 PM today.
Both the teams had their net practice sessions in the stadium this morning.
With the Met office report predicting a bright and sunny day today, the spectators look forward to an exciting match without interruptions.
“We have come to see the fireworks by Glenn Maxwell, David Miller and Virender Sehwag of the Kings XI team that crushed the mighty Chennai Super Kings on May 7”, said a young cricket fan waiting at the stadium gate..
Ruling out any delay in the start of the match, former Odisha seamer Pawan Agrawal said despite the moderate rainfall last night, the covered pitch has remained in tact and the soaked outfield is drying fast.
“Though the outfield is wet, it would dry up quickly during the day due to clear weather and bright sunlight. However, like the previous match, the outfield this time would be a bit slow. However, the score is expected to be around 200. This is a sporting wicket and there is a reward for the bowlers if they bowl accurately with some variations”, Agrawal said.
With all the tickets sold out for the match, the stadium promises to be choc-a-bloc this evening.
For a smooth and incident free match, elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around the stadium, police sources said.
