Heavy rainfall likely to lash 14 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: Moderate thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and heavy rainfall likely to occur in as many as 14 districts of Odisha today, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted.

The districts likely to experience heavy downpour are Khordha including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack including Cuttack city, Jagatsinghpur including Paradip, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Jajpur and Kendrapara.

“Latest doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that moderate thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and intense rainfall likely to occur over the districts of Khordha including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack including Cuttack city, Jagatsinghpur including Paradip, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Jajpur and Kendrapara between 2.15 pm and 6.15 pm today,” a bulletin of the Meteorological Centre said.

On the other hand, the cyclonic circulation over north Odisha coast & neighbourhood now lies over north coastal Odisha & neighbourhood and extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting south southwestwards with height.

Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours.

Rough to very rough sea conditions are likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast during next 2-­3 days for which fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea during the period.
