Nayagarh, Nov 22:
The arrest of a groom just before leading marriage procession to his would-be bride’s house under Daspalla Police limits in Nayagarh district in Odisha on Monday has become the talk of the town in nearby areas.
According to reports, Daspalla Police arrested a groom identified as Pankaj Sahoo of Krushnachandrapur Patana village in the evening yesterday for allegedly cheating a young woman on the pretext of marrying her.
According to police, the duo was in a relationship and the accused had developed a physical relation with the victim, hailing from Berhampur, making her pregnant.
However, the family members of Pankaj had chosen a girl in their village to tie the knot on Monday night with his consent.
While both the families were in a hurry and delighted for the marriage ceremony of the duo with gathering of relatives and guests, the arrest came as a complete surprise after the victim filed a complaint with the police narrating her ordeal in the evening.
The bride’s family members got shocked after the news broke out. With no other options left, they arranged another groom to marry the girl on the same day.
